about
'ICEBREAKER' is the first single from our upcoming debut album 'BETTER DAYS'
‘ICEBREAKER’ is a song about grief.
Grief is a strange and cruel beast. The pangs of loss never really leave us, no matter how far we stray from the event itself.
This song explores my grief following the loss of my idol, my uncle, in 2019. It details self-hatred, loathing and pity. It details anger and fear and sadness.
Since writing and recording this song, grief has taken a new shape to me. In the past year I suffered the loss of my two closest companions. I realise truly the depth the fissures of heartbreak can run; the complete helplessness it brings, and the endless wishing for one more moment.
But there is no grief without love, and that kind of love isn’t going anywhere. And that’s another thing you find - I may leave this plane of existence, but the love isn’t going anywhere.
I’m as certain of that as I am of anything.
lyrics
It must be so exhausting being so self involved
Your constant cries for validation always someone else's fault
You might think I'm selfish, well honey I do too
I care about myself 'cause I no longer care for you
My name is el, I'm quite alright
I've been working on myself
I've been better many times, but I've been worse as well
My idol died two weeks ago, his funeral was late
But I still got up two days ago, 'cause I know that he will wait
for this
Icebreaker,
Life taker,
Self praiser,
Sad Faker,
Icebreaker,
Life taker,
Self praiser,
Sad faker,
I'm a useless waste of space, but at least I'm self aware
You're a rebel with a cause, but your cause just isn't fair,
Don't call me out at 3am, 'cause you can be your own,
My idol died two weeks ago, I just want to be alone
With this
Icebreaker,
Life taker,
Self praiser,
Sad Faker,
Icebreaker,
Life taker,
Self praiser,
Sad faker,
